World's No.1 YouTuber MrBeast Reveals His Battle with Crohn's Disease
MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson), the world's most-subscribed YouTuber with 366 million subscribers, has opened up about his struggle with Crohn's disease, drawing attention from fans worldwide. Known for his daring experiments, challenges, and philanthropic content, MrBeast has now shared a deeply personal health battle.
MrBeast’s Experience with Crohn’s Disease
Recently, MrBeast appeared on the podcast 'Diary of a CEO' hosted by British entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, where he revealed his long-term battle with Crohn’s disease. He explained that growing up in a single-parent household, his mother had to work tirelessly to support the family while also taking care of him and his brother, both of whom suffered from the condition.
Diagnosed at the age of 15, MrBeast’s weight dropped from 86kg to 63kg, and his muscle mass significantly decreased, making physical activities challenging. His health struggles ultimately led him to quit baseball in college and fully dedicate himself to YouTube.
Challenges of Living with Crohn’s Disease
MrBeast shared the daily struggles caused by Crohn’s disease, including frequent bathroom visits—up to 8 to 10 times a day—and severe abdominal pain. He described the sensation as feeling like “someone is stabbing my stomach.”
As a content creator who must constantly generate new ideas and produce videos, dealing with Crohn’s disease adds another layer of difficulty. He admitted, “Honestly, my life is in 'hard mode.' There are days when I have absolutely no energy.”
Managing Crohn’s Disease with a Strict Diet
To prevent his condition from worsening, MrBeast adheres to a very strict diet. He avoids foods like chips, cookies, and corn, along with other foods that Crohn’s patients should not consume. He expressed his frustration by saying, “I really want to eat cereal, but I can’t,” and shared that his diet primarily consists of chicken and sweet potatoes.
Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus. According to medical information from Seoul National University Hospital, the condition most commonly occurs at the junction of the small intestine and colon. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss, while complications can involve joint pain, skin disorders, eye inflammation, fibrosis of the bile ducts, and kidney stones.
While no specific diet can cure Crohn’s disease, avoiding certain foods is essential when inflammation is active. Patients are advised to steer clear of fatty meats, dairy products, strong spices, alcohol, coffee, carbonated beverages, and high-fiber vegetables.
Support from Fans and Messages of Hope
Following MrBeast’s revelation, fans have flooded him with messages of support, praising his courage in sharing his personal struggles. His openness about Crohn’s disease has inspired many, especially those facing similar health challenges.
Despite his condition, MrBeast remains committed to his YouTube career while managing his health. His journey serves as a source of encouragement for millions, shedding light on Crohn’s disease and providing hope to those who battle it daily. His honesty and resilience continue to make a positive impact on people around the world.
